Dear HPC users,
Today denotes the official beginning of summer 2018.
Below are a few information we wanted to share with you at this occasion:
Uni.lu HPC School 2018: the 8th edition, held in Belval on June 12-13, 2018 was a great success.
- You can find program details on this page.
- As always, we have spent quite some time and effort to provide up-to-date contents and new materials.
- If you've missed the tutorials, you might want to check out their content available on http://ulhpc-tutorials.readthedocs.io/.
- Feel free to report your comments and feedback on the session contents and help us improve our next trainings.
- The next HPC school is scheduled for November (exact date will be communicated in due time).
Quota change on the gaia cluster
- As you probably noticed, the storage usage on GPFS within the
gaia cluster is too high (96%) and we cannot extend further its storage systems.
- As a preventive measure, we had to 'freeze' the current soft quota limits and reset the hard limit to avoid file system crash.
- you can use the
df-ulhpc tool to check your current usage and limits
- please check if you can clean up unneeded data or move it elsewhere
- we are planning to move work directories (
$WORK) to Lustre (previously only hosting $SCRATCH) to save some space on the main storage units, this process will be transparent to you
- If possible, consider moving you project data to Isilon or (better) the flagship HPC cluster
iris.
2018 Software set update
- Updated software sets are about to be released in the coming weeks.
- You can already try them using
module use /opt/apps/resif/data/devel/default/modules/all/
- A short maintenance of the
iris cluster is also scheduled on Monday, July 2nd to allow for a few security updates -- see #876
Incoming developments and deployments
- We are about to release a new tender document (RFP 180027) to extend the
iris cluster with GPU-enabled computing nodes, as well as bigmem nodes.
- This should allow to exceed the 1 PFlops total computing capacity for the UL HPC facility.
Thanks for your understanding, we wish you a wonderful summer.
Happy Computing!
The UL HPC Team
